Shinnecock Canal

Shinnecock Canal shows a stretch of water with a shoreline nearby. Broad paint strokes cross the sheet with some quicker sweeps cutting through. Grace Hartigan worked in a postwar abstract style built on gesture and pressure. The marks sit on the surface in uneven bands.

This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte face keeps the paint strokes from catching a lamp. The back panel adds a flat base so the print rests evenly when it arrives assembled.

On a study wall near a desk, the big strokes read first. Closer up, the thinner lines and shifts in tone show up. The framed print stays put on the wall and holds the view without needing a stand.
