Snail S Trace 1937 shows loose lines that twist and curve across a plain background. The marks look like a quick drawing in motion, with shapes that drift and overlap.

Roberto Matta worked in surrealist painting practice, and this fine art piece follows that way of building space with thin strokes. The paper is matte, so the greys stay soft and there is no shine under a lamp.
