About this work
Southern Tunisian Gardens 1919 shows a network of small marks and colour patches arranged across a pale field. The picture reads as a set of garden paths and planted beds drawn in thin lines and small colour spots. Paul Klee built the layout from repeated little forms rather than a single scene.
A fine art print set in a frame with a back panel carries the drawing as it sits on the page. The matte surface holds the pale greens and reds without shine, so the thin marks stay readable on a lit wall.
It hangs well on a bedroom wall beside a low bed, where the small forms look clear from the doorway and the narrow pencil strokes show when you stand near the wall in the morning light.
