Spring Woods — Fine Art

Spring Woods by Childe Hassam shows a stand of trees in fresh green and dappled light, painted in the loose stroke of American impressionist painting. The leaves shift in colour from near the trunk to the open ground, and the sky sits above the canopy in a pale wash.

You can see the quick brush marks where the paint meets the paper. This fine art print is made on matte paper, so the green tones stay flat under a lamp and the grey sky does not shine.

A light frame on a dark wall, a dark frame on a pale wall, or a wood frame beside wooden furniture all work with the scene.
