Star — Fine Art

Star shows open colour washes spread across a white field. The painted marks stay apart from each other. Sam Francis lets the paint spread and leave soft edges where the colour thins out. From across the room the broad shapes read first. Up close the thin edges and the white space become clear.

The white frame gives this fine art print a clean edge on the wall. The white finish holds the open field without changing the look of the colour washes. You see the painted marks against the white frame and the white space inside the picture.

It works on a hallway wall above a narrow shelf. From the front door you notice the open colour first. Standing closer you see the thin paint edges and the white space between the marks.
