Straits of Malacca — Fine Art

Straits of Malacca shows bold rectangular shapes set against a flat field of colour. Al Held built the picture with hard edges and layered pigment. The composition pulls the eye across the surface from one block to the next. It belongs to the abstract painting practice Al Held developed over many years.

This is a fine art print on matte paper. The finish keeps the colours even and stops glare under a ceiling light. You can match the frame to the room. A light frame sits on a dark wall, a dark frame on a pale wall, or a wood frame beside wooden furniture.

On a stairwell landing the picture sits high on the wall. From the bottom step you see the big blocks first. From the top step the thin dark lines between the shapes come into view.
