About this work
Structural Constellation 1952 shows a grid of thin lines and small shapes arranged by hand. The lines cross and break into clusters that look like a loose star field. Josef Albers set the marks with graphite on paper, leaving room between the clusters so the eye rests on the white space.
The drawing stays quiet because the tone is even across the sheet. You can buy this as a fine art print that keeps the light grey marks soft. The frame finish can follow the room.
A dark frame on a pale wall gives the grid a firmer edge. Hang it on a hallway wall at shoulder height, where the thin lines can be read from a few steps away. In a reading corner the paper feels flat under a lamp and the small marks stay clear without glare.
