Studio Painting 1961

Studio Painting 1961 shows a flat sheet worked over with paint, ink and pieces of paper. Robert Rauschenberg put common materials side by side and let them keep their own marks. The surface reads as a record of objects laid down and worked into the sheet.

The fine art print comes ready to hang. The frame finish can follow the room you choose, so a light frame sits on a dark wall or a dark frame sits on a pale wall. The matte surface keeps the painted lines soft and stops shine under a lamp.

It fits a hallway wall near the stairs where a low light runs along the lower edge. From the landing you notice the broad painted shapes first, then the smaller ink lines as you pass by.
