About this work
Study for Ice Flow, Allagash - 1996 shows a pale water surface broken by dark bands of ice. The painted marks sit in layers, each one a little thinner than the last. Neil Welliver built these scenes from repeated passes over the same ground.
The fine art print uses matte paper so the grey ice tones stay flat and the white ground does not shine. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the painted bands separate.
It fits a hallway wall beside a coat hook. You see the ice lines first, then the thin repeated strokes lower down.
