About this work
Synchromy No. 3 by Morgan Russell holds bright colour planes that seem to push and pull across the picture. The painted bands move in one direction while the next band tilts the other way. This is a synchromism print, a form of early colour abstraction from the 1910s.
The white frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall. The frame finish keeps the bright colour planes separate from the room around them. The fine art print sits behind glass with a clean matte finish.
It works on a kitchen wall above the counter. From the table you see the bright colour bands, and from the doorway you notice the frame edge against the wall.
