An old-fashioned rotary telephone floats against a flat field. Warhol’s Telephone isolates the object, stripping it of context or cord.
The handset rests at an angle, receiver cradled in the curve of the base. Black ink defines the contours; no shading, no reflections. A single dial sits at the center, holes punched like a mechanical eye. The image reads as both portrait and still life, a relic rendered in two dimensions.
