About this work
Rolling waves move across the surface of The Choppy Sea, with the eye drawn from the lower left toward the bright top right. Henri-Edmond Cross built the water from small separate touches of paint. The sea moves in broken pieces rather than one long line.
The fine art print uses a matte paper surface, so the pale blue and green tones stay quiet instead of shining. A light frame on a dark wall lets the separate paint touches stay clear, and a wood frame sits well beside wooden furniture.
On a kitchen wall in the morning, the pale water tones sit calm against the room. From the table you see the small colour touches and the open space above the waves.
