About this work
The Dancer 1949 shows a single figure in motion, drawn with a few long lines and quick colour shapes. Henri Matisse worked with simple outlines and flat colour, so the dancer reads as a clear pose rather than a detailed scene. The body turns on the page, with space left open around the form.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame is needed. The matte surface keeps the drawn lines sharp and stops the figure from glaring under bright light.
It fits well on a bedroom wall near the foot of the bed. From the doorway you see the long curve of the body first, then the small colour spots around it as you pass by.
