About this work
The Legend of the Centuries 1950 by Rene Magritte shows a painted scene in the surrealist painting tradition. Solid forms stand against a plain painted field, with one object set near the edge. From across the room the shapes read as simple blocks. Up close the painted marks hold more detail.
The fine art print uses a matte paper that takes the flat colour areas without shine. A light frame suits a pale wall, a dark frame works on a dark wall, and a wood frame sits beside wooden furniture. The frame choice follows the room, not the image.
It fits a study wall near a desk lamp, where the plain field stays calm under warm light. From the doorway you see the solid forms first, and when you step closer the painted surface shows its quiet marks.
