About this work
The Maures shows a sunlit hillside with small colour touches spread across the ground. Henri-Edmond Cross painted the scene with separate strokes of warm yellow and cool blue. The blue tones sit behind the yellow, so the hill feels open and bright.
The fine art print sits on a pale wall with a light frame that follows the room. The frame finish can match the wood in nearby furniture, so the picture feels settled rather than loose.
In a study corner the print hangs above a desk, and from the chair you notice the blue strokes first, then the yellow patches. The frame sits near a wooden bookshelf, and the light comes from a lamp on the left side of the desk.
