The Mysterious Boat

A quiet boat rests on a dark field with the title The Mysterious Boat. The eye settles on the hull first, then drifts into the empty space around it. Odilon Redon drew this scene with loose lines and faint colour patches.

The fine art print sits on a matte sheet so the faint colours stay flat and do not shine under a lamp. You can match the frame to the room, a dark frame on a pale wall or a wood frame beside wooden furniture. Nothing reflects back at you from the surface.

It works in a hallway with a low bulb overhead. From the landing you see the boat shape clearly, up close the thin lines show their hand drawn feel. The empty field stays calm even with people passing by.
