About this work
The Pointe St Pierre at St Tropez 1896 shows a rocky headland meeting calm water under an open sky. Theo van Rysselberghe used small dots of paint to build the sea and the stone edge. Neo impressionist painting gives the scene a steady, broken colour surface.
This fine art print is ready to hang on arrival. The paper is matte, so the light greys stay soft and there is no shine under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall lets the cool blue grey of the water sit forward.
In a study, the picture hangs on the north wall above a desk. From the reading chair the shoreline reads as a quiet band of stone and sea. The small paint dots hold their shape at that distance.
