About this work
The Red House 1927 shows a warm red building shape set against a muted ground. The painted surface uses broad strokes and a few darker patches that sit flat on the paper.
Carlo Carra painted in the Futurist and Metaphysical styles, and this scene reads as a quiet house form rather than a busy street. From the doorway the red shape holds its place on the wall, and from the far end of the hall the flat colour field opens up.
The fine art print sits in a frame with a back panel, so the picture stays flat and the edges stay clean. A matte surface keeps the softer reds from shining under a lamp. On the landing wall the red form stays clear from the top of the stairs, and the flat ground stays steady near the newel post.
