About this work
The Star 1960 shows a painted shape that holds a steady balance, drawn from the mobile and stabile work of Alexander Calder. A single form rests against a flat field, with colour laid in clear areas. The field stays open so the painted line has room to read.
This fine art print uses a frame in white, wood, dark wood or black to give the picture a clean edge on the wall. The frame edge keeps the painted shape from blending into the room, and the finish stays quiet against the flat ground.
On a kitchen wall, the painted shape reads from the doorway and the flat field keeps the eye moving across the room. Near the sink the edge of the frame separates the image from the tiles, and the painted line holds its own space.
