The Waterhole — Fine Art

The Waterhole - Tonalism shows a shallow pool of water with trees and low ground around it. The paint sits in a narrow band of tone with most of the sheet left quiet. The marks are laid down with a soft hand and move slowly across the page. Xavier Martinez worked in this tonalist style, letting the colour stay calm and the edges stay loose.

This fine art print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. The matte paper holds the grey and blue tones without shine, so the water surface stays flat under a lamp.

It fits well on the wall beside a bedroom window. From the bed you see the dark band of water first, and from the door the soft ground comes into view.
