About this work
The Yacht Race Wettsegeln by Lyonel Feininger (1918)
A fleet of sailboats cuts through choppy waters in Lyonel Feininger's The Yacht Race Wettsegeln. This dynamic scene captures the energy and excitement of a competitive regatta, with each vessel vying for the lead in a dance of skill and strategy.
The composition is a symphony of geometric forms and bold lines, with the sailboats' masts and sails creating a rhythmic pattern against the cobalt sky. Feininger's use of crosshatching and layered hues adds depth and texture, while the ochre and umber tones of the boats contrast beautifully with the deep blues of the water.
This poster brings a sense of adventure and movement to any space, ideal for a study or a hallway where its energy can be appreciated.
