Tokyo — Fine Art

Tokyo shows open colour washes spread over a wide white field. Broad bands of paint sit in the middle, leaving empty space on the sides. The eye moves across the lighter areas first. Sam Francis worked with thin paint that leaves soft edges where the colour meets the bare ground.

This fine art print is ready to hang on arrival. The frame comes in white, wood, dark wood or black. A black frame sets a hard line against the open colour here, so the washes stay loose while the edge reads as clean on the wall.

It fits on a wall over a kitchen counter. From the sink you notice the broad paint band first, and the white space beside it keeps the room from feeling crowded. The picture stays calm while you work at the stove.
