Townscape D 1968 shows a built scene through a grey ground and soft marks. Gerhard Richter shifts the picture so the forms lose their hard edges. The view reads as a city strip seen through a haze.

The fine art print arrives ready to hang. A metal hanger sits on the back and goes straight onto a nail. That keeps the image flat against the wall without a frame.

On the landing wall at the top of the stairs, you notice the bands of grey first. From the bottom step the shapes hold together. Halfway up the marks break apart.
