About this work
Two Discs 1965 by Alexander Calder shows two flat painted circles set on a sheet. The circles sit apart, each one a clear shape against the ground. From the middle of the room the discs read as simple forms.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. Up close the paint surface shows the cut out edge and the colour boundary. The white frame finish gives the picture a clean line that stops at the wall and holds the discs inside a plain border. A narrow black frame edge also keeps the two discs separate from the room.
The black frame finish gives a steady edge that does not pull the eye away from the painted circles. The dark wood frame finish gives a warm edge that sits against the painted field.
