About this work
Two Paint Cans - 1987 shows two paint cans standing on a shelf or table. The cans sit side by side with plain labels. Wayne Thiebaud paints the cylinders with heavy blocks of colour and clear shadows. From across the room the cans read as two solid forms.
This product is a fine art print set in a frame, with a back panel. It arrives assembled when the ready to hang option is used. The matte paper keeps the painted colours flat and the shadows stay soft under a lamp.
In a study the cans sit on a bookshelf above a desk. You notice the two shapes first, then the label marks and the soft shadow beneath each can. The picture stays calm on that shelf and does not pull the eye away from the books.
