Ulysses

Ulysses - 1979 shows broad painted bands set against a softer ground. The darker tones sit near the edges, while lighter areas open up in the middle. The surface carries the calm rhythm of Color Field painting. Ron Gorchov handled colour in wide sweeps rather than in small details.

A fine art print set in a frame with a back panel sits flat against the wall. The matte surface lets the soft tones stay even and keeps the reflection down. When the ready to hang option is used, it arrives assembled.

Over a dining table the picture reads as a settled band of tone. From the doorway the eye reaches the middle first, then slides to the darker edges. The room feels quieter around it.
