Untitled - 1953 by Mark Rothko uses broad painted bands of colour that hover on the sheet. The fields sit close in tone and their edges blur where the paint meets. The darker tone rests near the lower half of the picture.

The fine art frame gives the sheet a steady border. You can choose white, wood, dark wood or black. A dark wood frame keeps the lower colour field from fading into the wall, and the clear edge marks where the picture begins.

On a narrow hallway wall the stacked bands read as one quiet block from the stair landing. Step closer and the blurred edges appear, with small shifts in the paint across the sheet.
