About this work
Untitled - 1967 by Adolph Gottlieb presents a field of painted shapes set over a quiet ground. The forms sit near the center and the edges stay open. You can trace the painted handwork in the outer bands.
The fine art version uses a matte surface so the painted tones stay even when the light moves across it. A light frame on a dark wall or a wood frame beside wooden furniture lets the picture fit the room. Heavy paper holds the ink without a shine.
It works above a desk in a study, where the desk lamp throws a steady glow on the painted shapes. You see the handwork in the outer bands from the chair. The dark ground keeps the desk area calm.
