About this work
Richard Serra drew Untitled 1967 with heavy black strokes on a warm white ground. The marks press close together and leave a thin light line at the top edge. The dark tones sit against the pale field and hold the paper flat. You see the weight of each line before you notice the space between them.
This fine art print sits in a frame with a back panel. The matte paper holds the black strokes without a shine under a lamp. The frame keeps the edges straight and the print stays flat in the house.
The print hangs above a low desk in a study. From the doorway the black strokes read as one dark band. When you stand near the desk the lines break open and show the pencil pressure.
