Untitled — Fine Art

Untitled - 1987 stands on its own against a plain ground. The picture uses a painted field with irregular patches of grey and black. Hassel Smith kept the paint thick in some places and thin in others.

From across the room the flat colour reads first. Closer up the uneven strokes come into view. The fine art print keeps those changes in tone without extra shine.

A light frame on a dark wall keeps the grey field clear. On a pale wall a dark frame gives the edge weight. It sits on a study room wall where the desk lamp throws a soft glow. The desk lamp throws a soft glow at the edge of the framed sheet.
