Untitled .213 SF240 opens on a pale ground where thin colour washes spread and leave the white space around them. Sam Francis works with soft layers of paint that let the paper show through. The painted marks stay apart from each other.

This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The paper stays matte, so the soft greys and blues do not shine under a lamp. You can see the edges of each wash clearly.

It fits on a hallway wall near the front door. From the stairs you notice the open shapes, and closer up you see the thin gaps between the colour.
