Untitled Black Clouds — Fine Art

Untitled Black Clouds shows dark shapes laid over a light surface. The dark marks sit against the pale ground and push the eye toward the open area. Sam Francis worked with open colour and wet paint in his abstract paintings, letting the marks spread and leave space around them.

This fine art print keeps the contrast between the dark forms and the light ground. The paper stays matte so the dark tones do not flash under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall or a dark frame on a pale wall can follow the room.

In a hallway, the dark bands read first from the side door. The open light space stays quiet at the far end. You notice the soft spread of the dark paint each time you pass through.
