Forty-two vertical bands, each a different width, run from top to bottom. This is Untitled, Gene Davis’s 1983 study in chromatic tension.
Cadmium red, viridian, and ochre alternate with narrow slivers of white, creating a pulse that shifts as you move. The edges never quite align, so the colors seem to slide past one another rather than stack neatly.
Hang it above a low credenza where the stripes can stretch uninterrupted, or let it anchor a gallery wall of smaller prints.
