About this work
Untitled Farbraumk Rper 1978 sets a field of colour against the paper. Gotthard Graubner built these colour spaces by laying thin layers over each other. The eye rests on the patches of tone and moves toward the edges where the colour thins out. Empty areas keep the picture quiet.
This fine art print comes set in a frame with a back panel. The frame holds the sheet flat and the back panel covers the rear. Light greys and warm tones stay even on the matte surface.
It works above a kitchen shelf where morning light comes in low. From the sink you see the blocks of colour and the open gaps. Standing at the table you notice the edges of each patch and the way the tones change across the sheet.
