About this work
Untitled Gouache Illustration for Tristan Tzara S le Fruit Permis 1956 opens on curved colour planes that cross the page and leave wide open space around the edges. Sonia Delaunay paints the bands so the eye moves along the overlaps and rests where the paper stays clear.
The fine art print keeps the painted marks soft, and a frame finish can follow the room you choose. A light frame on a dark wall lets the pale planes stand out, while a dark frame on a pale wall keeps the edges quiet.
It works on the wall beside a tall bookshelf in a study, where the curved planes line up with the shelf fronts. From the desk you see the open paper first, then the colour bands step forward as you move closer.
