Untitled SFM83-338 — Fine Art

Untitled SFM83-338 sets a wide open field against a band of thin colour. Sam Francis lets the washed shapes spread and leave blank space around them. The paint stays layered and the paper surface shows.

The fine art print keeps the wet look of the original wash. A light frame on a dark wall lets the pale band sit forward, and a dark frame on a pale wall pulls the colour back. You see the layers best on a wall that gets steady light.

It reads well on the landing wall where the light turns late. From the top stair you catch the spread of the band, and on the lower step you notice the thin edges. The blank field holds the room without crowding it.
