Untitled SFP94-79 SFF 1755 by Sam Francis opens on a pale field with broad colour washes laid in open layers. The paint spreads across the surface in loose bands.

The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. Sam Francis worked with acrylic and water-based paint, letting the colour run and pool in uneven shapes. A thin metal hanger is fitted to the back so the print goes straight onto a nail or screw.

The matte surface keeps the wash edges soft and stops glare from a lamp. It works above a desk in a study. From the doorway you see the wide colour bands, and from the chair you notice the uneven edges of each wash.
