Untitled Venetian 1973

Vertical bands of blue wash sit over a rough off white field in Untitled Venetian 1973. A few darker lines cross the sheet. The painted marks sit on top of a printed ground. Robert Rauschenberg used transfer print and painting together in this kind of work.

The piece arrives as a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The paper stays matte, so the blue washes read as soft bands rather than shiny patches. The frame holds the sheet flat and the back panel keeps it ready on the wall.

Hang it on a stairwell wall beside the steps. From the landing you see the big blue bands first. Closer up you notice the printed grain under the painted lines.
