V.s. - 1960 by Karl Benjamin shows flat colour planes meeting at hard edges on the sheet. The printed marks sit in clean bands, with pale and dark tones set beside one another.

A steady hand laid the boundaries, so each colour block stays separate. The composition reads through those flat areas and their sharp limits. Karl Benjamin worked in this way across his abstract paintings from the California movement.

The paper stays matte, so the surface holds the light without shine. You can see the printed tone without glare under a lamp.
