Variation Z Rtlichkeiten 1917

The painting Variation Z Rtlichkeiten 1917 shows a face reduced to a few planes and lines. Alexej von Jawlensky worked in the expressionist style, using strong colour and simplified forms. You see a head built from flat colour areas.

This fine art print sits in a frame with a back panel, ready to hang. The matte paper keeps the paint tones even and stops glare under a lamp.

On a kitchen wall near the sink, the broad colour bands hold the eye while you wash up. The small forehead line and the deep eye shape stay clear at arm length.
