About this work
View of Ceret shows a town built into a steep hillside. Houses stack on one another with thin windows and dark roofs. The sky sits behind the row of buildings. Soutine wrote this as an expressionist landscape with rough paint handling.
The print arrives ready to hang with a metal hanger fitted to the back. It goes straight onto a nail or screw, so the picture sits on the wall without a separate frame. The fine art paper keeps the paint strokes matte and soft.
In a kitchen, the row of roofs reads from the breakfast table. Up near the sink you notice the uneven paint marks in the tree line. The hillside holds its shape at a distance.
