Warrior Universe — Fine Art

Warrior Universe - 2010 shows broad painted fields laid across the sheet with hard colour edges. Big shapes press close together, and a few thinner marks cut through the middle. The surface looks worked, with layers sitting one over another. John Hoyland built pictures like this by stacking colour bands and letting the edges stay firm. From the far end of the hall the large blocks read as solid colour. Step nearer and the small pencil lines and the layered strokes become clear.

The fine art print comes ready to hang. The paper is matte, so the light greys stay soft and there is no shine under a lamp.

It fits a bedroom wall beside the bed, with the broad colour bands seen from the doorway and the thin marks clear when you sit on the edge.
