About this work
Who Knows the Beginning and Who Knows the End I 1976 by Blinky Palermo places rigid colour bands across a plain field. The eye enters on the largest strip and rests on the edge where one tone meets another.
The fine art print sits in a frame with a back panel and arrives assembled when the ready to hang option is used. A matte surface keeps the soft tones from reflecting under a lamp and lets the painted colour fields read as flat planes.
On a kitchen wall near the sink the broad colour bands read as simple shapes from the far end of the room. Step closer and the hard edges hold their line without blur. The same view works from a study desk facing a plain wall.
