About this work
Window of Unknowing shows a soft field of layered strokes built up over time. Richard Pousette-Dart worked in abstract expressionist painting practice, using repeated brushwork to build tone rather than a single sharp image. The marks cross and overlap, leaving areas of lighter and darker paint on the same surface.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame to buy.
It sits on the stairwell wall above the third step, where the morning sun hits the paint at an angle. From the landing you notice the crossed strokes first, then the small gaps between layers as you walk past.
