Winter — Fine Art

Winter by Jasper Johns uses the cold colour range the artist returned to across his career. The picture shows overlapping grey and pale forms on a muted ground. The forms sit close together and read as a single frozen field. You see the steady build of paint that runs through his work.

This fine art print is ready to hang on arrival. A white frame gives the image a clean edge on the wall. The frame keeps the grey forms set apart and lets the pale tones stay soft. A wood frame sits warmer against the cold marks.

It works above a bookshelf in a study. From the desk you notice the grey bands first, then the small shifts in tone as you move closer. The picture stays calm on that wall and does not crowd the shelf.
