About this work
Dittico rosso - 1966 by Enrico Castellani presents two broad red fields on a pale ground. The paint sits in flat colour areas with soft edges. A quiet tension runs between the two sections. The work belongs to the postwar abstract painting practice of the Italian artist.
The fine art print uses matte paper so the reds stay even and do not shine under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the two colour blocks separate. A dark frame on a pale wall lets the red fields stand out.
On a hallway landing the two red sections read as a simple pair from the stairs. From the landing you see the broad colour shapes. From the next room you notice the soft edge where one red field meets the pale ground.
