About this work
The sea fills the lower half of Penobscot Bay with Yellow Field 1968, with a bright yellow strip running along the shore. Fairfield Porter places the horizon low and leaves the upper sky open. Sky and water meet in loose brushwork.
The weight stays near the water line. A strip of yellow marks the field and brings the colour forward. The view reads across the bay with calm spacing.
This fine art print comes with a metal hanger on the back that fits a nail or screw, so it goes up straight on the wall without a frame to buy. The paper stays matte, which keeps the yellow from glaring and lets the blue tones stay soft in normal light.
