About this work
Glow II - 1968 by Helen Frankenthaler shows a broad painted area with soft colour edges on a pale ground. Thin paint settles into the sheet without raised texture. The work belongs to the soak stain method used in colour field painting. You see the open paint spread across the surface.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The frame is black and gives the picture a sharp edge on the wall. The dark frame sets a clear line against the pale ground of the image. The finish keeps the painted area separate from the room.
It fits on a bedroom wall above a narrow shelf. From the floor you see the big painted shape first, and the small shifts in tone later. The black frame sits flat against the painted field.
