Jack-in-the-Box — Fine Art

Jack-in-the-Box - 1969 by Gene Davis opens on a row of painted colour bands that cross the sheet. The bands step through hue from one side to the other. Some bands stay narrow. Some bands grow wide.

The eye moves along the stripes and stops where the colours change. A fine art print of the picture hangs on the wall with a metal hanger on the back. The hanger fits over a nail or screw. You do not need a frame.

The paper is matte, so the colour bands stay soft and there is no shine under a lamp. This picture works in a reading corner. From the chair you see the stripes across the wall. From the desk you notice the small changes in tone between the bands.
