Méditerranée 01 — Fine Art

Méditerranée 01 - Art Informel opens on a sheet of light with broad painted shapes laid down by Nicolas de Stael. The areas of colour sit side by side with a loose hand.

The title points to a coastal view treated as a field of paint rather than a detailed scene. The work belongs to the artist practice of building images from patches of colour and firm strokes.

A fine art print set in a frame with a back panel holds the image steady on the wall. The matte paper keeps the paint tones flat and dull, which suits the broad shapes of Méditerrée 01 - Art Informel. In a hallway with a frosted bulb overhead, the painted patches read as simple colour blocks from the stairs, and the deeper notes stand out against the pale paper.
